Atlanta Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring is almost here, Atlanta! If you’ve spent the last season huddled inside, now’s a great opportunity to crack those windows and start thinking about spring cleaning. You may have your annual spring cleaning plan, but all too frequently homeowners can skip over a few important tasks.
Here are just a few recommendations to max out your spring cleaning from your floors to your shutters, so you can enjoy our favorite season in Atlanta.
Clean Your Windows For Spring
It’s common to get out of bed in mid-March and realize that the lousy view out your window isn’t caused by winter weather–it’s caused by a gunked window. Spring is an ideal time to deep clean your windows. Get that beautiful view back with these instructions.
-
If your window opens, open it all the way and remove any dirt or debris in the sill. Try first to clean out as much as possible with the track dry, then wash with warm soapy water and a rag to clean out the rest. This helps your window operate more easily, and make sure your window can completely close.
-
Spray down the window with a cleaning solution. You can use either a chemical cleaner bought off the shelf, or mix a homemade cleaner with one part vinegar and two parts warm water.
-
Wipe the windows with a microfiber cloth. These cloths are best for cleaning glass and leave the least amount of streaks.
Don’t Forget to Clean those Window Treatments
A clean glass window isn’t worth much the window treatment isn’t similarly clean.
For fabric window treatments like drapes or curtains, cleaning can be a hassle. For thick fabric window coverings, remove them from the wall and shake them outdoors to get rid of any loose debris, then pop them in the washer on a cold cycle and air dry them. For thinner window treatments, you’ll need to handle them more delicately, and hand-wash them in a sink or tub.
Plantation shutters might be the easiest window treatment when it comes to cleaning. Get rid of dust by wiping down with a microfiber cloth or duster. To spot clean, wipe with a slightly damp cloth to get rid of any stain, then go over with a dry cloth.
Spring is also an ideal time to think about replacing your window treatments. Check out the Sunburst Shutters Atlanta Idea Gallery to see stunning photos of ways a new window treatment can revitalize.
Spend Time on Your Appliances
Your fridge, oven and washer and dryer are just as much furniture as appliances. Particularly with newer appliances such as stainless steel appliances, looks are just as important as functionality. Clean all the nooks and crannies of your appliances, and make them look stunning again.
Stainless steel appliances can be shined up with a solution made of 1 teaspoon dish soap and 1 quart of warm water, applied with a damp cloth and air-dried.
Get Every Single Surface
You’re probably going to give your floors and walls some long overdue attention when you do spring clean, but be sure to spread some attention around to some of the most often neglected surfaces. Here are just a couple of the spots that are easy to forget when doing your spring cleaning:
-
All handles or switches that hands touch. These could be on the toilet, doors, or any other spot in the house.
-
Various shower surfaces, like the door, floor, and soap ledge.
-
The tops of your ceiling fan blades.
-
Underneath appliances - especially the big appliances such as your fridge164 and dishwasher.
